The go-kart
project was begun as a test model for a student project. The original
design was from Sefton High School and proved very popular with year
11 and 12 students. I needed it as a fourth year project for the BEd
Technological and Applied Studies metal fabrication and machining strand
at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Education.

The go-kart
is powered by a 125cc Victa lawn mower two-stroke engine, so it is meant
to be just a fun kart rather than a serious competitor. In any case
a larger engine can be fitted to the kart but remember it only has a
light frame so I wouldn't recommend it.
An interesting
variation to the original design was the band braking system. The band
brake is a similar type to that used on my Foden steam truck project.
